The resilient scholar

About Us
Our homeschool tutorial is a secular, selective group of like-minded and diverse families and children. Our participants respect and honor all our families, regardless of race or ethnicity, religious beliefs, socio-economic status, and homeschooling style.
We offer exciting weekly Health, ELA, Humanities and Technology classes in a small home setting. Our minimum reading level for middle school is 5th grade due to selected curriculum and readiness levels for structured activities and lessons.

You and your scholar will also have access to our digital classroom, resources, social activities, and curated, educational fieldtrips. We believe in the benefits of mixed age classrooms and acknowledge skills and concepts as a continuum of learning. Classes include a range of activities, skills, and extension lessons in place to support all learning styles and levels. Our classes are taught by a highly qualified, certified, veteran teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience!
LOCATION:
We meet weekly in Anne Arundel County, MD. For the safety of our children, specific location will be shared privately. We often like to hold class at local libraries when students have presentations or research to complete. This will be shared in advance.
CLASSES:
Full year commitment is not required. However, we do require commitments by quarter. You may enroll by quarter as we understand that financial situations and schedules may change. Most topics do not build. Selected curriculum and lessons are taught through a spiral approach. Therefore, you may start or end any quarter.

TUTORS:
If you are interested in leading a class one quarter, we welcome you! The life and diversity of the group depends on collective participation and input! Please contact us to discuss these possibilities. Support and guidance is available, if you are unsure about turning your passion into a class. Whether you offer something to a younger group that you've done in the past with your child, or take a topic you've been planning to do at home and share it with a small group, you'll be surprised at how rewarding this opportunity can be! This is a chance to share your passion, hobby, or academic interests. Tutors set their own class fees, keeping 100% of what they receive from parents. Please connect with us to discuss your possibilities!

PHILOSOPHY:
Tutorial classes are intended to assist in supplementing your home curriculum by driving instruction as the "spine" for that subject. Learning is continued at home during the week through assigned work/practice that extend the classroom lessons. Most curriculum is provided in e-format. Parents are required to print materials each week for class. Your child has two tutors: one in the classroom (me), and you at home. We ask that you continue learning at home, working and discussing assignments together, providing organization, scaffolding independence, and holding your child accountable by reviewing and assisting as your child needs. Any final decisions on grades are made by you, the homeschool supervisor for your family. You are welcome to solicit feedback, however, when making these decisions. Ultimately, you hold the clearest insight into level of efforts 6/7 days at home. Assignments are optional, but strongly encouraged (and will be provided) as additional practice is crucial to your child's learning experience.
